Program Description:
Come and spend an afternoon at the movies with Books Alive! - a screening series from the Jacksonville Film Festival in partnership with the Jacksonville Public Library featuring films created from children's literature.

Our FREE monthly screening series features films created from children's literature.

The program will reach out to students, encouraging them to read a book, watch the corresponding film, and join in a post-screening discussion.

Read the books & watch the movies - fun activities follow each screening.

SEPTEMBER 28 - THE NEVERENDING STORY (1984)

In this charming fantasy, Bastian, a lonely schoolboy alienated from his father and bullied by his classmates, retreats to an attic where he becomes engrossed in a book entitled THE NEVERENDING STORY. It is the tale of a magical kingdom appropriately named Fantasia, since it is a world born of human fantasies. Bastian is drawn, literally, into the pages of the story.

Based on Lucy Maud Montgomery's novel about a young orphan girl who steals the hearts of a lonely Canadian couple with her spirit and lively imagination. Max Steiner provides the warm musical score. Shirley assumed her character's name for her professional identity.

DECEMBER 30 - EMMET OTTER'S JUG-BAND CHRISTMAS (1977)

Christmas is approaching in Frogtown Hollow, and Emmet Otter and his Ma hope to buy gifts for each other. They decide to compete in the Frog Town Hollow Talent Contest in order to win money. Kermit the Frog hosts this classic Muppet musical Christmas tale, based on the book by Russell & Lillian Hoban, with original songs from master tunesmith Paul Williams.
