- Administrative Supervisor

- Description: This is an appointed position reporting to the Library Deputy Director. It is one of three positions that oversees public service units and this particular position is responsible for overseeing 10 branch libraries ranging in size from large (50,000 square foot unit with 17 full time staff) to small (3,500 square foot unit with 3 - 5 full time staff). The position is part of a senior management team that consists of 11 of the highest ranking staff members. The position is responsible for a range of administrative functions that support the Library's mission to provide outstanding library services to the residents of Jacksonville.
- Key areas of responsibility include:
- Monitor branch library operations ensuring that performance goals are met in key areas and that customer satisfaction remains high.
- Monitor unit expenditures via bi-weekly and monthly reports for collections, staffing and supplies ensuring that monies are properly expended using established procedures for tracking and accountability.
- Develop and implement operational activities such as reference services, circulation, collection management, etc.
- Formulate and implement policy and procedures.
- Works closely with the Director and the Assistant Director for Facilities and Planning on management of the facilities including maintenance and renovations.
- Resolve difficult customer service issues.
- Manage personnel issues and serve on the Library's Personnel Committee which makes decisions regarding hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.
- Participate in at least one community organization, which will provide the opportunity to leverage the reach of the library and connect the library to the community.
- Play a major role in the Library's annual and strategic planning process including implementing goals and related objectives identified in the Library's Strategic Plan entitled Destination:next.
- Educational and Work Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of a Master's degree in Library Science with at least 7 years of progressive advancement in a library environment, at least three of the seven years with experience in a supervisory/management capacity.
- Strong supervisory skills required with excellent communication skills. The Library operates in a team-based environment. It is a customer-focused organization whose primary customer is the library customer.
- Must be able to drive an automobile and have a current Florida driver's license.
- Must be capable of traveling from one location to another and use common work related equipment such as a computer, Blackberry, telephone and copy/fax machine.
- Requires expert knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs including Excel, Word and Access.
- Position supervises a minimum of ten individuals but much of the responsibilities of this position must be accomplished through working with staff at a comparable level in the Library as well as organizations that support the Library.
- Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and be capable of handling multiple tasks at one time and dealing with emergencies such as problems with the facilities.
- Must be able to use good judgment and problem resolution when cooperating with others to provide consistent service levels system wide.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are required.
- Position requires a meaningful level of community involvement as a representative of the Library to the community; examples include service clubs such as Rotary or Lions, educational or service organization membership such as Chamber of Commerce or Downtown Vision.
- Technical Services Librarian

Job responsibilities include: development and maintenance of all areas of the library's public website; maintenance of JAXCAT the library's public catalog; assist in configuration of Integrated Library System (Sirsi); and provide training to library staff on ILS related topics.
