Employee Benefits

At the Jacksonville Public Library.
For Full Time Employees
Insurance Benefits
- Choice of major medical insurance plans (HMO or QPOS).
- City-paid life insurance benefit equal to the employee's annual salary.
- Dental and Vision Insurance available.
(Insurance benefits start on the first of the month after 90 days of full-time employment.)
Leave and Holidays
- New employees earn twenty (20) days of annual leave per year and are entitled to one
personal leave day per year. Leave accrual increases with every five years of service in
increments established by contract.
- Eleven (11) paid holidays annually.
- One Personal Day each fiscal year.
City of Jacksonville Pension Plan
- Employees may be covered by a Defined Benefit Pension plan in which the employee
contributes 8% of his/her salary. Employees are vested after five (5) years.
(Since the pension has a disability provision, applicants must pass a physical exam to
qualify. Those who do not qualify will contribute to Social Security.)
Deferred Compensation
- Deferred Compensation savings plans are available through several different companies.
Section 125 Flexible Benefits Plan
- An optional, flexible benefit plan allows employees to pay certain health and dependent
care expenses tax-free.
- Employees may also utilize a "Medical Reimbursement Account" to pay medical expenses not
covered or only partially paid by insurance. Reimbursements received during the year from
this account for eligible, out-of-pocket medical, dental and vision expenses are all tax-free.
Staff Development and Training
- All City employees are required to have a minimum of twenty-four (24) hours of training
each year.
- The City's Training and Organizational Development Division offers a wide variety of
classes each month.
- The Northeast Florida Library Information Network (NEFLIN)
offers training specifically geared to the needs of Librarians.
- All staff members are encouraged to participate in professional organizations and to
attend conferences and meetings to enhance their skills through learning about other
library systems and networking with others. In many instances, the Library will
underwrite some of the costs of attendance.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
- An Employee Assistance Program is available to all employees and covered dependents at
no cost.
Tuition Reimbursement
- Tuition Reimbursement is available for approved college-level, career-related classes.
